Artist Statement

Hello, my name is Marci Erspamer, and I was born in SLC, Utah on May 29, 1974. I am a fine arts painter with an eclectic style, blending elements of cubism, abstraction, art nouveau, and surrealism. People tell me I have a style of my own.

Since a very young age I have had a deep desire to connect with people. My hypersensitivity created profound anxiety about the impermanence of it all. Compared to other kids my age, I was unusually affected by death. Because of this, I felt compelled to nurture others all the more. My early inner struggle lead to various paths of escape -- none of which brought me peace. Not until my early twenties did I find any purpose. I finally realized my spiritual quest to understand our existence would only come through Art. Painting was a way to bridge the raw energies of the subconscious and a way to communicate to the world. Pictures transcend words. Colors render emotion. Forms are not limited by language, nor culture, nor time.

My goals as an artist are simple. I seek to forge new methods and archetypes with a unique interpretation of here and now. Everyday I refine the nexus between my subconscious and my technique. I pull inspiration from my dreams, meditation, and from everyday things. Like nature, my overall approach is organic.
